Fly Falcons Fly

An overly dramatic week 2 MNF game left the Filthadelphia faithful absolutely speechless, after one-legged Kirk Cousins somehow managed to put the Falcons on his back for the victory. The Falcons showed some serious grit and determination to pull off an improbable win. This win was huge for Atlanta because Tampa Bay and New Orleans started their seasons hot as hell at 2-0. The Falcons needed that win to stay relevant in the NFC South race.

There’s a lot of blame to go around. We can blame Kellen Moore for not running the ball to ice the game. We can blame Saquon Barkley for dropping the football. We can blame Darius Slay for getting frozen in time when he got crossed by Drake London. We can even blame the broadcast for spending the whole night glazing the Eagles and Jason Kelce, etc. etc. After a game where the Eagles ran the ball down the Falcons throat, clamped them in the red zone, controlled the clock, and made the Falcons pass rush look like it was on vacation, I can see why there is finger pointing. It was a terribly mishandled game down the stretch by the Eagles.

What should be highlighted, though, was the Falcons’ offense’s ability to drive the length of the field and score a go-ahead TD with no timeouts. Kirko Chainz looked like he got his “Austin Powers mojo” back as he was slinging that thing all over the field at the end of the game. The Falcons scored so fast I was worried the Eagles were going to have time to come back. After the defense was getting manhandled in the second half, they managed to stop the Eagles’ too little too late comeback effort. The cherry on top was the game-sealing interception from ball hawk Jessie Bates III. Seeing the whole Falcons defense doing the Dirty Bird dance in the camera was special. The Falcons needed a win badly, and this game was a huge team building moment.

Side note
I’m dying to know what Jason Kelce thought of the end of the game. Was he happy with the outcome? Were we going to watch him shotgun beers? Was he going to have a parade on broadcast?
Guess we will never know. #RISEUP
